That we call the Heart, in spirituality, has no feeling in the sense of emotion, however blissful the feeling. The Heart is prior to all such feelings, and needs you to do nothing for It to be what It naturally is. Spirituality is a process of learning to surrender to the fact of this oft apparently-hidden Heart, but the Heart is as present, powerful, and open in Its apparent hiddenness as when It seems to come out and shine brightly.

It is futile to try to keep the Heart open. The Heart is naturally, already open. For many persons the normal experience is of the Heart not being open and needing to be opened. They treat the Heart like a swinging door. Experiences of the Heart being open are just that, however, experiences, nothing more and nothing less - experiences. The Heart, or Essence, is always, already open and, so, the sense of those joyful moments of the Heart being open are really experiences of the Heart. Please, pay attention to this - the Heart cannot not be open. So, you can appreciate the bliss of experiences of the open Heart, but do not try to hang on to such experiences. Do not become willful in trying to replicate these experiences: this becomes simply an effortful form of unhealthy self-focus. By surrendering the felt-need to manufacture and prolong the experiences of the open Heart, you come to sense a more subtle, stable Feeling - a sense of the open Heart that remains as true to Itself in times when you feel the Heart open or feel It not open. Now, what is this Heart? We could call This many things. Yet, certainly, the Heart is not you the personality, not even you a person among persons. Indeed, you do not have and are not in yourself this Heart. The sense of self as person, as individual, can open and close, not This we write about and call, among other things, Heart.
